Opportunity to Serve Paves Way for Future Projects
Love INC and Individuals from Treasure Valley Area Churches Partner to Give Back to Nampa FamilyNAMPA, Idaho – While many people are trying to make the most of their precious summer weekends by devoting time to their favorite activities, one group found a way to make their weekend count for something on Saturday August 11th.
This group of about 20 individuals from multiple Treasure Valley churches, joined with Love INC, to help a family forge ahead with home repairs and improvements, including: tearing down a garage, clearing the yard, tidying up flower beds, putting in bark, pruning bushes, trimming a tree, building a wheelchair ramp and laying linoleum.
After a stroke, Patricia Williams experienced mobility issues and had to use a walker. The responsibilities of keeping up on an older home which had been in their family for 37 years fell on her daughter and son-in-law, Victoria & Matt Keely, who have done what they can with limited means.
The family raved as they saw the house and landscaping change before their eyes. Williams’ granddaughter, Amelia Keely, commented that her mom almost cried when she saw it all. The wheelchair ramp gave Williams and her daughter a new peace of mind.
"The end results are unreal − I never expected this much. I am so thrilled," Williams said.
"It is safer now. She couldn't go out to get the mail," Victoria Keely said. "Now she has no worries about falling. The house has seen better days, and better days are coming."
Zac Anderson of Nampa, a senior at Multnomah Bible College, organized the project. His background in construction, and his desire to complete his summer studies by organizing a community project, led to this and another project in cooperation with Love INC.
While the group accomplished more than they expected in one day, other issues with the house need to be addressed. The remaining challenges are electrical and plumbing. Anderson hopes this team effort will pave the way for other churches to step in and continue serving those in need.
"We received more charity than we expected," Victoria Keely said. "It looks more and more like her (Williams’) home."
